Kayaking Tip - Finding and keeping your balance
Hey paddlers, John here from Boating in Boston to share with you a tip for kayaking! If you’ve ever been in a kayak, you know how “tipsy” they feel. Much like riding a bike, you must find your balance to stay afloat. The best way to do so is to keep your weight centered in the boat. Keep your shoulders between the sides of the boat, sitting up straight. You should feel the boat stabilize at this point. Once you feel comfortable, start to gently move about, paddling a bit, and see how you feel, and see how the kayak responds. Also, on balance, if you are paddling along and feel like you may flip over, stop. Don’t paddle anymore, just return to your center of balance. When you feel stable again, slowly begin to paddle. I can’t guarantee you’ll stay upright by doing so, but stopping and regaining balance will definitely help.
